Beware of Brain eaters: Amoebic meningoencephalitis


 Naegleria Fowleri discovered in  1899,   an amoeba, free   living organism that   doesn't need a host   to live, that can   cause a serious   central nervous system infection. Hitherto this type of Amoeba has infected about 400 people's life, but only 11 survived, hence it's mortality rate is 97%.

 Some cases were reported in USA, that a citizen who infected this virus through Tap water at last he dead. Like that latest newses inform that a 14 year old teenager survived this amoebic meningoencephalitis in Kerala,at Kozhikode.



This virus's symptoms will be appear within 5 days or between 1 to 12 days. The sample of this viruses are collected through backbone.
There are many symptoms like :headache, fever, nausea and vomiting
, neck pain, confusions, hallucinations, inability to focus on people and surroundings and coma.
When any person enters a pond or Lake still freshwater, if the presence of Amoeba will be there, then they will enter through the nose and reach in the brain then start to
 destroys the brain tissue by “eating” it

Are there any prevention methods?

Yes, "prevention is better than cure" firstly be aware about the origin of this amoeba, they are generally found in soil and warm freshwater, lakes, rivers, ponds, in rare case which has been found in poorly maintained swimming pools, splash pads and tap waters. You can also be infected by inhaling infected specks of dust.
Therefore avoid swimming and diving such these waters as much as you can. And ensure the safety and cleanness of drinking water.


Are there any treatments for this virus?


Yes, if this virus is discovered in the primary stage of a patient, medicine can cure this virus easily and successful treatment has included Like Mitefosine ( a broad spectrum antimicrobial,Antileishmanial, phospholipid drug) therefore if anyone feels a little bit of fever or headache or any symptoms which mentioned here please contact any doctors and ensure your bodies safety
